The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP, can help American families save money on groceries if they have a low income. However, not all recipients collect the same payment amount.
Although the maximum SNAP amount is worth $1,751 if your family has 8 members, it could be much lower if you have other earnings or savings or if your family size is just one person.
WHAT ARE THE MINIMUM SNAP AMOUNTS IN THE USA?
From October 1, 2023, through September 30, 2024, the minimum Food Stamp amount will be $23 (only 1 or 2 members). This is the minimum amount for those on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program in the 48 contiguous States and the District of Columbia.
This minimum SNAP amount is not the same in Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Alaska, and Hawaii. Since they have a much higher inflation, their minimum and maximum amounts are much higher.
For example, if you live in Guam, the minimum a family of 1 or 2 can get at least $34. The U.S. Virgin Islands offers at least $30 for 1 or 2 people. While you can get at least $42 in Hawaii, Alaskans can get $30, (Urban), $38 (Rural 1), and $46 (Rural 2).
WHAT ARE THE MAXIMUM SNAP AMOUNTS IN THE USA?
According to USDA, the maximum benefit amount is worth $291 for a single recipient. The thing is if you are 2, you will not get double that amount as the maximum check. In fact, it will be less than double.
SNAP recipients who are 2 can receive a payment of up to $535. If you are three and qualify, you can receive up to $766. Four-member families can qualify for a check worth $973.
Five-member families can obtain a SNAP payment of up to $1,155. It goes up to $1,386 if you are six and up to $1,532 if you are 7. The maximum Food Stamp amount is $1,751. But if you are 9 getting this benefit, you could get $219 additionally.
