To get SNAP or CalFresh in California, you must have applied first there. It is only possible to apply in the State where you are living. Of course, approval from the Food Stamps office is necessary.
Requirements have to do with resources and income limits mostly, but other conditions may apply. California will send money to eligible beneficiaries from October 1 through October 10.
How will California arrange paydays for the SNAP or CalFresh program?
Now you know California sends CalFresh payments over the first days of October, let’s see how paydays are scheduled. What California uses is the case number.
Those citizens whose case number ends in 1, will receive money from USDA on October 1. If your case number happens to end in 2, you will receive your Food Stamps check on October 2.
- case number ending in 3: payday on the 3rd
- case number ending in 4: payday on the 4th
- case number ending in 5: payday on the 5th
- case number ending in 6: payday on the 6th
- case number ending in 7: payday on the 7th
- case number ending in 8: payday on the 8th
- case number ending in 9: payday on the 9th
- case number ending in 0: payday on the 10th
CalFresh payment amounts for SNAP recipients
The maximum SNAP amounts in California are the same as in the 48 contiguous States. However, there is an important change regarding the September payments.
As of October 1, there will be new SNAP amounts. There will be a Cost of Living Adjustment but it will be a small one. Therefore, recipients will not see a big difference in the payment amounts from September and October.
Another thing to take into account is that Able-Bodied Adults Without Dependents aged 53-54 will have to meet the specific work requirements and will have a time limit to get CalFresh. New maximum SNAP amounts with the COLA increase below:
- 1 $292
- 2 $536
- 3 $768
- 4 $975
- 5 $1,158
- 6 $1,390
- 7 $1,536
- 8 $1,756
