Relief could be on the way for some residents in the stateline area who had to dispose of food due to the widespread power outages caused by recent severe storms.
The Winnebago County Emergency Management Agency has announced that recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) who experienced power outages lasting more than four hours can request food replacements. This must be done within 10 days of the outage. According to the Illinois Department of Human Services, food purchased with SNAP benefits can also be replaced if it was destroyed by a fire, flood, tornado, or other catastrophic events.
