The formerly known Food Stamps, now SNAP or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, is very useful throughout the United States because it helps entire families buy fresh food for their day to day lives.
However, as of October 1st of this year 2023, several changes have taken place that mean that some of those recipients may even lose the check. In this regard, it is mandatory to comply with an ABAWD time limit.
Even so, not all adults will be subject to this new regulation. Only adults between the ages of 18 and 52 will have their SNAP eligibility rules affected. This is as long as these adults are able to work and do not have children at the time.
The Able-Bodied Adults Without Dependents (ABAWD) rules require Americans to collect SNAP benefits for a maximum of 3 years. If during that time the adult’s situation does not change, he or she will not be able to continue to get Food Stamps.
WHO WILL BE AFFECTED BY THESE NEW SNAP REGULATIONS?
As mentioned above, only able-bodied, unburdened adults will have to follow this new regulation. Likewise, those over 52 years of age have special rules in this regard.
Even so, ABAWDs will be required to work a minimum of 80 hours per month in order to get SNAP Food Stamps. Otherwise, they will only be able to collect this benefit for 3 months over 3 years.
Thousands of people have had their benefits affected by this measure. Still, the ultimate goal is for these Americans to move forward and get a good job, a good salary, and not depend on SNAP Food Stamp-type benefits in the future.
Remember that this new regulation is already in force, and it began to operate on the 1st of October. Therefore, if you are in the 18 to 52 age group, you should check that you meet the requirements, as you could lose your SNAP benefit if you do not meet them.
