SNAP benefits payments provide low-income American individuals and families with a monthly Food Stamp payment. However, when your school children do not get the free meals at school because it is summer, you may run out of money. Therefore, alternatives like the SUN Bucks program can give you $120 extra to buy food during the summer holidays.
Although many States joined the SUN Bucks programs and sent money to EBT cards last summer, some had just joined and did not send any SUN Bucks at all. So, many SNAP recipients could not get this extra money from SUN Buck in the summer of 2024. Here is a list of the States that have recently taken part in the SUN Bucks program.
States that were planning to participate in the SUN Bucks program, apart from SNAP
The States that did not participate in the SUN Bucks program, even if they sent SNAP benefits last summer, and have recently joined are:
- Nevada,
- Missouri,
- New Hampshire,
- Massachusetts,
- Hawaii,
- United States Virgin Islands
- Puerto Rico
- Louisiana
Remember that if your State has recently taken part in the SUN Bucks program, you should check if you qualify for this new benefit since it is compatible with SNAP payments.
States that do not participate in the SUN Bucks program even if they have SNAP benefits
Not all States offer the SUN Bucks program, here is the full list of States that do NOT have SUN Bucks:
- Idaho
- Wyoming
- Utah
- South Dakota
- Iowa
- Texas
- Florida
- Mississippi
- Alabama
- Georgia
- South Carolina
- Alaska
For your information, your kids are eligible for SUN Bucks if they are school-age and your family is participating in the SNAP benefit program. Or if you are receiving TANF or FDPIR. If their school has the National School Lunch or School Breakfast Program and your income meets the limits for free or reduced-price meals set by USDA, they also qualify.
