Social Security beneficiaries will get their December checks later than usual

If you have a Social Security benefit and are expecting to get it in December, you may not get it in time for your holiday shopping

Find out if you will get the Social Security check before Christmas

Getting a Social Security payment at a particular time of the year can be a relief for certain United States citizens. There are some times that are more important than others to be able to use the money for the purpose of making specific purchases.

In the case of Christmas, for example, being able to have the necessary money is really vital to be able to make those types of purchases without the need to have too much stress about running out of money. And that’s because the holiday season can be stressful for Americans who don’t have a very large Social Security benefit.

And the problem is that many of these Americans will not get their retirement check payment in time in December to be able to shop. Some will get their benefit after the vacation. At the very least, one group will be in that situation. But there is another group that will also have the possibility of being in that situation.

WHICH GROUP WILL GET THEIR DECEMBER SOCIAL SECURITY PAYMENT LATER?

Beneficiaries in the second largest group of retirees will get their Social Security checks later. The Administration divides retirees into two major groups, but the first of these groups will get a check on time without any problems.

The first group is the group of beneficiaries with a pre-1997 benefit. That group is not divided into other different groups, but all retirees prior to that year collect the check on the same day. In the month of December this day will be the 1st of the month.

On the other hand, the other group is the group of retirees after 1997. This group is divided, in turn, into three different groups. And of those three groups one of them for sure cannot get the check before Christmas Day. The other two groups may get it, but it is not 100% certain. These are the payment days for these groups:

In this month it is more important than ever to activate the Direct Deposit, as it will help us to have the payment as soon as possible.

WHAT OTHER SSA PAYMENTS ARE AVAILABLE IN DECEMBER?

In addition to these payments for retirees, the Social Security Administration will send out two other checks in December. These payments are only for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients and will arrive on two different days.

The first of these checks will arrive on December 1st. This payment will be only for SSI recipients who have previously accepted this benefit. The payment will be for a maximum of $914, as it pertains to the 2023 calendar year.

In addition to that payment, the Social Security Administration will also pay the January 2024 SSI check on the 29th day of December. This advance is due to a minor calendar irregularity. Since the payment pertains to 2024 it has the COLA added to it, so it will be $943 maximum.
