Social Security announces improvements for SSI applicants

The Administration has just confirmed the latest updates for SSI (Supplemental Security Income) applicants. They announced it as a multi-year effort to make the application process much simpler.

Social Security has confirmed that there will soon be an online and streamlined application for some SSI applicants. However, it is unlikely to have access to this service in September.

When will Social Security offer the online and streamlined SSI application?

Supplemental Security Income applicants will be able to use this new service from December 2024 onward. For those who do not know what the Supplemental Security Income payments are, they are monthly benefits for low-income recipients who have a disability, or are blind, or are at least 65.

IClaim expansion’s main goal is to set up a fully online application. What it more, it will be a implied application process. So, more people will be able to understand what they have to answer or provide SSA with.

SSA will use plain-language questions, which have been tested before by users. Prepopulated answers will also be used. That means information will be automatically filled in or provided in advance.

The goal of these Social Security improvements is to help reduce the time SSI applicants spend applying. What is more, it will also be faster to process applications so it may reduce wait times.

In this way, Supplemental Security Income applicants will know SSA’s decision faster. Avoiding any unnecessary delays can help Supplemental Security Income applicants get checks of up to $943 in less time.

They can receive a monthly payment on the first day of each month. Of course, income and resource requirements are essential. Martin O’Malley, Commissioner of Social Security, said that:
