Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will receive their monthly payment on August 30 instead of September 1, 2024. This is because the first day in September falls on the weekend.
For your information, Social Security cannot schedule payments on Sundays, so it will have to be sent on the previous business day. It tends to be a Friday, but it could be any other business day depending on whether it is a holiday or not.
SSI amounts for August 30
The average Supplemental Security Income payment is worth $697 for all recipients. However, it will depend on your age-group whether you can receive a larger or smaller payment from this Federal payment.
For example, those aged 65 or older can get $574 on average from SSI. If you are 18-64, your monthly payment can be about $743 on average. But if you are under 18, your average payment will be the highest.
Those under-18 recipients who are receiving Supplemental Security Income benefits can get an average payment worth $815. In fact, it is the closest to the $943 full amount for individuals. Eligible married couples can receive up to $1,415.
SSI eligibility in 2024
Although there will soon be some changes that can affect the payment amounts, they have not come into effect yet. General requirements will remain the same though. For example, you must have a low income and little or no resources to qualify for SSI.
What is more, you must be in one of the following groups of applicants to qualify.
- applicants and recipients must be at least 65 years old, or
- have a qualifying disability, or
- be blind.
Do not forget that there are also residency requirements. These monthly payments are for both children and adults who meet all the conditions set by the Social Security Administration. SSI payments are compatible with retirement and SSDI benefits, so you can receive both of them simultaneously.
