Social Security – Thousands of Americans will have to wait more than two weeks for new benefits

The Social Security Administration will send out new retirement checks, but we will have to wait longer than usual to get it

The remittance of payments from the Social Security Administration depends on each month’s calendar. This means that the beneficiaries of this benefit in the United States need to know the calendar well in case they want to control everything related to their household finances as much as possible.

However, there are times when even knowing the regular calendar can lead to irregularities. When this happens, Social Security beneficiaries have to wait a little longer to get their monthly payment. Although there are times when they have to wait a little less, depending on the month and the group to which they belong.

In the month of December we encountered a small irregularity whereby three groups of retirees are not able to collect their Social Security until a week later. This could mean something really negative for this group of beneficiaries, since if they need the money they could have financial problems.

WHICH GROUP WILL HAVE TO WAIT THE LONGEST TO GET SOCIAL SECURITY?

The group of beneficiaries who will have to wait a little longer to get the new Social Security check will be the post-1997 beneficiaries. The Administration divides retirees into two major groups: pre-1997 and post-1997 retirees. Within the second group there are, in turn, three other groups.

Well, those three groups, the post-1997 retirees, will have to wait a little extra time to get their monthly benefit. To be exact, they will have to wait an extra week. The day on which they will be able to get the first of the checks in this group will be December 13th. This will be the third week, something not common in these cases, since they always receive the payment in the second week.

Post-1997 beneficiaries will get their Social Security payment on one day or the other depending on their birthday. These will be the payment days for those beneficiaries:

Remember that without Direct Deposit they will not be able to get check on the same day of mailing. These are the days on which the Administration will send the check, but whether or not you get them on that day will depend on the collection method you have active.

WHEN DO PRE-1997 BENEFICIARIES COLLECT THEIR RETIREMENT BENEFITS?

In the event that our retirement benefit is prior to 1997, we will receive the check on a totally different day. To be exact, the collection day for this group will be December 1st. This month’s payment is earlier, since it is usually on the 3rd day of the month.

Therefore, while one group will get a check later in December, another group will collect Social Security a little earlier. Also, remember that with Direct Deposit we won’t have to wait a day to get our retirement check.

Likewise, if we have Supplemental Security Income we can also get this check on the 1st of December. This means that we will get two checks that day if we have both active benefits.
