When it comes to Social Security payment amounts, it depends on the worker’s history and background whether their payment will be higher or lower. So, payments are somehow made-to-measure.

SSI payments depend on the other benefits you are receiving and on other earnings or resources you may have. As of October 2024, the Social Security Administration (SSA) announced that the average payments recipients received in September 2024 were as follows:

The average monthly benefit for Old-Age and Survivors Insurance is $1,837.79. The average payment for all retirement benefits is about $1,873.08. Now, it is time to check the average checks for retired workers.

As a matter of fact, their average payment has gone up by about 1 dollar. As of September 2024, the average payment for retired workers is $1,920. For your information, none of these direct deposits or checks include the 2025 COLA increase.

Spouses and children of retired workers can get benefits too. Their average payments are about $909.23 for spouses and $892.72 for children of retired workers on Social Security. Amounts for survivors:

Social Security Disability Insurance average payments

The Social Security Disability Insurance can send payments of up to $3,822. The average for all SSDI recipients (workers, spouses, and children) is $1,402.44. All workers with a disability get an average payment of about $1,539.84.

Spouses of workers with a disability get on average about $421.49. Their children get about $492.46 on average. But what about Supplemental Security Income recipients?

SSI recipients can get about $697.27 on average. If you are under 18, your average payment will be much higher since it is about $813.01. SSI recipients aged from 18 to 64 obtain payments of about $743.77 on average. Those with the smallest average checks are seniors aged 65 or older.

They get about $574.99 on average. None of these payments include the 2025 COLA, which will come into effect on December 31, for SSI and January 3 for Social Security beneficiaries.
