That is why they must be eager to know when their December payments will be and if there are any surprises. In fact, there are some unusual things. Although there are just 5 paydays, there will be 6 different payments. So, there will be two payments on the same day.
When will the Social Security Administration (SSA) send the first payment?
Despite the fact that there is usually a single payment on the first day of the month, there will be an exception on December 1, 2023. So, On December 1 there will be two different checks.
Of course, the first SSA payment is always for those on Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Usually, the second payment is for those beneficiaries on Social Security before May 1997.
However, December 3 is Sunday. SSA never sends benefits on Sundays or Saturdays. Since banks are not open, the Administration prefers to send the money on a business day. So, if you usually get your payment on the third day of the month, it will arrive on December 1 instead.
Remember that if your payment is due on a holiday, you will also receive your check on the previous business day. By doing so, Social Security avoids delays and sends payments on time to beneficiaries who may be on a low income.
When will Social Security send the rest of the payments?
If you did not receive Social Security before May 1997, then your payments will arrive on the second, third, and fourth Wednesday in December. That is on December 13, 20 and 27.
In order to qualify for the Wednesday round of payments, you must meet the birthday requirement. Those SSA beneficiaries whose birthday is from the 1st to the 10th of the month will receive their check on December 13.
December 20 will be payday if your birthday is from the 11th to the 20th. The last round of Wednesday checks will arrive on December 27. But only if your birthday is from the 21st to the 31st. Do not miss the information regarding the last payment in December. Yes, there will be another check on December 29.
This payment will be for those who are on Supplemental Security Income. As January 1, 2024, is a holiday, you will receive it in advance. As for the amounts, SSI beneficiaries can get up to $914 in 2023 and $943 in 2024. Retirees can receive about $1,841 on average and SSDI recipients $1,486 approximately.
