SSDI payments will be sent on October 9, 16 and 23. However, the amount each recipient gets may be completely different. This is because there are many different factors that shape the amount of your Disability Insurance check.
For example, when your disability appears is a determining factor. The earlier you file for Social Security, the smaller your SSDI payment will be. Not only does the age you apply for disability benefits affect amounts, but also your wages, the jobs you had, and the number of years you worked.
SSDI payment amounts
The amount of your disability payment will depend on the previously mentioned factors. For example, if you earned the contribution and benefit base for 35 years, you filed as late as Social Security allows, you had jobs covered by SSA and you worked for 35 years too, you could get $3,822 in October.
If you were not a higher earner, your payment may be closer to the average amount. As of August 2024, the average SSDI check is about $1,539. If you have just applied for Disability Insurance and you do not know how much you could get, there is something you could do.
Download your Social Security Statement and you will see if you have paid enough taxes to the Agency to receive SSDI and how much. Those who receive a very small payment from the Administration can also apply for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance program (SNAP).
Eligibility for SSDI in October
If you have a qualifying disability and your disability is expected to last for over a year, you may be eligible for SSDI payments. Of course, as long as you have paid enough taxes. Here is the payday eligibility:
- Disability Insurance payment on October 3 was for recipients: on SSI and SSDI simultaneously, or on benefits before May 1997 (next payment on November 1)

- Disability Insurance payment on October 9: recipients whose birthday is from 1-10
- Disability Insurance payment on October 16: recipients whose birthday is from 11-20
- Disability Insurance payment on October 23: recipients whose birthday is from 21-31
