Disability recipients in the United States may receive money from Social Security on October 9, 16, or 23. Some even got their monthly SSDI check or direct deposit on October 3, so they will not receive their next payment until November 1, 2024.
SSDI recipients who qualify for the October 9 payment of up to $3,822 must have been born from the 1st to the 10th of any month. Disability Insurance payments are only for those who applied and got approval. If you are also on SSI, you do not qualify for the Wednesday payments in October.
SSDI payments after October 9
For your information, these last 3 October payments are not for those who started collecting Social Security before May 1997. Those who are eligible for the October 16 payment for SSDI recipients were born from the 11th to the 20th.
If you were born after the 20th of any month, your next Disability Insurance payment will be sent by Social Security on October 23. Of course, as long as you did not qualify for the October 3 payment.
As for the maximum amount, SSDI recipients could get up to $3,822. Average payments are just about $1,539, so most recipients can expect an average payment rather than the maximum amount. This will depend on your work history, earnings and filing age among other factors.
SSDI and the 2025 COLA
Social Security Disability Insurance recipients can learn about the 2025 COLA increase figure on October 10. That will be when the Bureau of Labor Statistics will unveil the CPI-W for September.
SSA will use the inflation figure to work out the 2025 COLA increase for Social Security retirement, SSDI, and SSI benefits. The problem is disability recipients will not get the boost for their Disability Insurance payment until their January check or direct deposit is sent.
The latest and best projection is the one from the Senior Citizens League. They claim that it will be about 2.5%, which is a lower boost than in 2024, 2023, or even 2022. An SSDI payment worth $1,000 in 2024 will become $1,025 in 2025.
