SSDI payments in the USA, possible amounts, payday and more

SSDI payments are about to be over in 2023. The Social Security Administration has recently informed recipients that December 27, 2023, will be the last check for those on this disability benefit.

To get this money from Social Security, you must have started receiving benefits in May 1997 or after that, but not before. SSDI beneficiaries must also meet a second condition, apart from still having a qualifying disability, they must have their birth date from 21-31.

There were three previous SSDI payments in December, so that means this will be the last one. Usually, there is one on December 3. Unless it is a holiday or on the weekend. And there will also be three more checks on the second, third, and fourth Wednesday in December.

SSDI AMOUNTS FOR THE DECEMBER 27 PAYMENT

Social Security Disability Insurance checks vary from one beneficiary to another. This is because not all workers paid the same amount of taxes to SSA. Some American workers do not even qualify for SSDI.

To get Social Security payments you must have worked for at least ten years. Nevertheless, there are exceptions for younger workers who apply for SSDI. For example, if you are 60 years old, you must have worked for 9.5 years.

On the contrary, those workers who develop a disability before age 28 just need 1.5 years of work claims SSA. Anyway, average SSDI payments are just $1,489 in 2023 and they will soon be $1,537 for the January payments in 2024.

If you qualify for the maximum SSDI amount, you will receive $3,627 in 2023. In order to get so much money you must have earned the taxable maximum for 35 years and filed for disability benefits very late.

SOCIAL SECURITY DISABILITY INSURANCE PAYMENTS ON DEC. 27: NO 2024 COLA

SSDI payments will not bring the 2024 COLA increase in 2023. Unlike SSI beneficiaries, they will have to wait until January to take advantage of the 3.2% COLA boost by Social Security.

The SSDI paydays with the 2024 COLA will be January 3, 10, 17 and 24. It will be then when disability beneficiaries will receive about 48 dollars extra per month. In just one year SSDI recipients can get 576 dollars.

Look at it that way if you believe that the Social Security boost is not enough. Disability beneficiaries can go a little bit further and they could try to save that money to have an emergency fund by December 2024. After the 2024 COLA, the largest SSDI payment will be $3,822.

Few will qualify for that large payment though. If you have a disability and have not applied for any disability benefits, do so because it can take more than five months to get a decision. Those who do not have enough with their monthly checks may want to apply for SSI or SNAP benefits too.
