Social Security Disability Insurance or SSDI payments are about to be in your pocket. There are just a few days left for the first Social Security check. This December you will cash your money 2 days before you usually do.
Seniors and people with a disability get their Social Security on the 3rd day of the month if they are on benefits before May 1997. But as it is on the weekend, you can collect it on the previous business day. So, that is why your SSDI check will arrive on December 1 rather than on December 3.
Another possibility to cash money on the 3rd day of the month is to get both SSI and SSDI. If that is your case, you will also receive your payment on the first day of December 2023. You are right, if you get Social Security Disability Insurance and SSI, you will get two checks on the same day.
Payments for SSDI beneficiaries after December 1
According to the Social Security Administration (SSA) payment schedule, there will be three more paydays for those on SSDI. However, to be eligible, apart from not receiving disability benefits before May 1997, your birth date must be on a specific date.
December 13 will be your payday if you received benefits after or in May 1997 and your birth date is from the 1st to the 10th of the month. So, if you meet both requirements, you will receive your Social Security on that Wednesday.
SSDI beneficiaries will have another opportunity to get money on December 20. Apart from the filing date requirement, your birthday must fall from the 11th to the 20th of the month.
The last chance to get your SSDI check will be on the last Wednesday in December. Thus, if your birthday is from the 21st to the 31st, your money will be ready on December 27.
How much can I get from my SSDI in December?
This will depend on the age you filed, your work history, and previous earnings you had. For example, if you worked for 35 years and earned the taxable maximum all that time, you may opt for a check worth up to $3,627.
Nevertheless, this is something unlikely and you may just receive an average payment of about $1,489. That is the average SSDI check in 2023 for people on these disability benefits.
Unfortunately, the 2024 COLA increase will not be available for any of these payments. Unless you are on SSI, you will not get the boost in 2023. Remember that the increase will be of 3.2%.
Thanks to this increase you will receive an average payment of about $1,537. SSI beneficiaries can receive up to $943 in 2024. Their COLA boost will arrive on December 29 and this will be their January payment, but in advance.
