Social Security unveils the average payments for SSI, SSDI and retirement

Sometimes you wonder what an SSI or Social Security recipient gets every month. Since you may not know someone to talk to about it, you can simply check the average payments as of October 2024 unveiled in November 2024. Depending on your age, you may receive a larger or smaller Supplemental Security Income payment.

For example, according to SSA’s Monthly Statistical Snapshot for October 2024, SSI recipients aged 65 or older will receive the smallest benefit payments, $576 on average. The reason why this could happen is because many of them receive Social Security retirement benefits and this reduces their payment amount on many occasions.

What is the average SSI payment for all recipients?

The average check or direct deposit for Supplemental Security Income recipients is about $697. Actually, it has not changed much, but it has slightly gone down since January 2024.

While recipients aged 65 or older can receive an average of $576, those under 18 can get $803. If you are aged 18-64, your average payment can be about $745.

Therefore, age matters when it comes to the average amount you can receive from SSI. SSDI beneficiaries receive more money than Supplemental Security Income recipients (on average), but less than retirees on Social Security.

SSI average payments compared to SSDI and retirement

Since SSI payments are a supplement for low-income Americans who either have a disability or are at least 65, average checks and deposits tend to be lower.

The Administration has unveiled more average payment amounts, so they are not just for SSI, SSDI, or retirement. For example, the average amount for survivor benefits.

As a matter of fact, they are about $1,509.29 as of October 2024. Widowed mothers and fathers can receive from Social Security about $1,287.88 on average. However, children of deceased workers can get about $1,104 on average, which is slightly lower. Disabled widow(er)s can receive about $927.53 on average and parents of deceased workers about $1,627.16.
