Social Security confirms SSI paydays and amounts in August

The Social Security Administration has announced that SSI recipients will get Supplemental Security Income on both August 1 and August 30 (for September). As for the maximum amounts, they will depend on whether they are an individual, a married couple or an essential person.

For example, essential persons will receive the lowest maximum benefit payment amount, up to $472. If you are an individual on Supplemental Security Income, you could get up to $943. However, an eligible married couple can receive up to $1,415. But what about the average payments?

SSI average payments for August 2024

Depending on your age, you may have a different average payment. While all Supplemental Security Income recipients get on average $697 from the Federal government, those aged 65 or older receive an average payment of just $574.

As you can see, there is a considerable difference. This is because SSI payments are only for those with the lowest income. Those who have little earnings and some resources like retirees get a reduction.

For example, if you receive Social Security retirement benefits while on SSI, you will not get $943 in most cases. According to Social Security’s monthly statistical snapshot for June, the younger the Supplemental Security Income recipient is, the higher its payment may be.

SSI average checks for under 65-year-olds

Sometimes, Supplemental Security Income recipients get benefits because of their age and low income. On other occasions, it is simply because they have a disability. That is why both adults and children can get SSI.

The under-18 SSI recipients may receive $815.96 on average. It is over 240 dollars more than the monthly payment for seniors aged 65 or older. But what about those aged 18-64?

If you are between the ages of 18 and 64, you could receive $743 on average. If you have a low income and you are 65 or older, have a disability or are blind, you could apply for SSI. There will be a monthly payment on August 1 and another one for September on August 30, 2024 as long as you remain eligible.
