SSI payments in November and December before the 2025 COLA increase

SSI is the Supplemental Security Income and eligible recipients usually get money from the Federal Government on the first of November. SSA has confirmed it and the next payment will be on November 1, 2024.

If Social Security cannot schedule the SSI payment on the first because it falls on the weekend or on a holiday, it is normally delivered on the previous business day. This will actually happen pretty soon.

The November 1 payment will not be the only check to be sent this month to Supplemental Security Income recipients. Bear in mind that the check or direct deposit for December cannot be sent on Sunday, December 1, 2024.

Thus, the Social Security Administration has scheduled the SSI check for December on November 29, 2024. Therefore, there will be 2 completely different paydays and all recipients may qualify for both of them because one is for November and the other for December.

The SSI payment for January will not be sent on January 1 because banks are closed and SSA offices too. Since this is a Federal Holiday, the Agency has had to set the January 1 payment on December 31, 2024.

Hence, SSI recipients will get the COLA increase for 2025 in 2024. The COLA can boost the maximum amount for individuals by about 23 dollars, a total of $276 per year.

Eligible married couples will get Supplemental Security Income of up to $1,450 on December 31, 2024. That is an increase of 35 dollars per month. In 12 months, these recipients can get a total of $420 extra. So, the COLA will be beneficial for low-income Americans.
