Not all SSI recipients get the same amount of money from the Federal Government. In fact, even average Supplemental Security Income payments change by age. For your information, as of October 2024, the average payment for all recipients is worth $697.50. Bear in mind that the maximum benefit for this program for low-income families is $943.

So, many recipients do not qualify for the full amount and they get an important reduction. This is possible because they have other sources of income. For example, if you receive Social Security while you are getting SSI, your payment amount will be affected.

SSI average payment amounts by age

According to Social Security’s Monthly Statistical Snapshot for October 2024, those who are younger and receiving Supplemental Security Income, receive higher payments on average.

For example, if you are aged under 18, your average payment is about $803.97. That is about $106 lower than an average payment for all beneficiaries. But the difference is even higher if it is compared to those aged 65 or older.

Seniors aged 65 or older receive just $576 on average. The main reason why the receive such a low payment is because they may be also receiving Social Security retirement benefits.

SSI and the average payments between 18-64

In between seniors and under-18s, you can find Supplemental Security Income recipients aged 18-64. Their average payment is about $745 as of October 2024.

If you are a married couple on SSI, you can receive up to $1,415. Unfortunately, the Social Security Administration has not provided any average payments for eligible married couples.

Essential persons can also receive money from this Federal payment. Although there are no average amounts either, the maximum benefit payment will be up to $472. None of these November 29 payments will include the 2025 COLA increase. All recipients will share the payday.
