Hundreds of SSI recipients may qualify for this U.S. Government program

Once you have gotten approval from the Social Security Administration to get SSI payments, look for ways to maximize all its perks

Hundreds of SSI recipients may qualify for this U.S. Government program

Social Security, SSI and U.S. Government program

The Social Security Administration offers the PASS program.  Actually, it is the Plan to Achieve Self-Support which some SSI recipients may be eligible for. So, if you have a disability it can help you go back to work.

However, this is not the only way this PASS program works. For example, it can also help a 15-year-old or older person who is getting SSI to set aside both income and resources to meet a career or work goal.

Social Security must approve PASS while on SSI

If you are on SSI and would like to take part in the PASS program, you should know that this program can help you return to work. So, PASS will allow you to set aside either things you own or money to pay for services or items you may need to meet an employment goal.

Bear in mind that PASS’ main objective is to help individuals with a disability find employment so that they do not need to rely on SSI or SSDI benefits. These benefits may not be enough and many participants want to go back to work.

First, SSI recipients must find out the training they need to achieve their work goals. Sometimes PASS can provide recipients with supplies to set up a business, and pay for school expenses, uniforms, transportation, tools, or equipment.

How can SSI recipients set up a PASS?

Once you have made up your mind on your employment goal, choose the services and items you will need to make it. Vocational Rehabilitation counselor can help you set up your plan.

Some organizations can also help you do it if you have a disability. What is more, the PASS program has Benefits Specialists and Advocacy organizations to support SSI recipients.

Let’s not forget about the Employment Networks including the Ticket to Work Program. Social Security offices may also be willing to help you. If you think PASS if for you or for someone you know, get the necessary form at: https://www.ssa.gov/forms/ssa-545.pdf. Fill it out and take it to the closest SSA office.
