If you have a look at the Social Security’s payment schedule for June you can tell that there is no SSI check arriving in June. This may seem shocking to new recipients of the Supplemental Security Income program.
However, this does not mean that SSI recipients will not get their money for June. Basically, the Social Security Administration needs to make some payday changes in order to make payments on time.
WHY IS THERE NO SSI IN JUNE?
The reason why there will be no Supplemental Security Income payment in June is because SSI will be sent on May 31. This often happens when the Supplemental Security Income is due on a holiday.
Social Security always changes SSI paydays if the payment date is due on the weekend as well. So, not just on holidays. What is more, it is often sent on the previous business day.
That is why Saturday, June 1, cannot be the Supplemental Security Income payday. By making this change to the Social Security’s payment schedule, there will be 2 Supplemental Security Income due during the month of May.
WHO CAN RECEIVE SSI ON MAY 31 AND HOW MUCH?
To get Supplemental Security Income on May 31 you must continue being eligible. Therefore, you must have a low income and little to no resources. Moreover, you must meet one of the 3 requirements Social Security set.
On the one hand, you must be at least 65 years old. If you are not 65 or older, you can also qualify. However, you must have a qualifying disability or be blind. Both adults and children can receive SSI payments if eligible.
