- CNMI (paper coupons)

USDA recommends checking other SUN programs if the SUN Bucks program is not available in your State. For example, SUN Meal may be available instead. Or else, the SUN Meals To-Go. If you are enrolled in the SUN Bucks program, it will be added to your SNAP account. Sometimes you may receive a separate EBT card.
What are the eligibility criteria for receiving SUN Buck checks as a SNAP recipient?
To be eligible for SUN Buck checks as a SNAP recipient, your student must meet the following criteria:
- They are between 5-18 years old and received SNAP or TANF at any point between July 1, 2023 – March 22, 2024.
- They attend a District of Columbia Public School, a DC public charter school, or a DC private school. The private schools participate in the National School Lunch Program.
- They are enrolled in PreK, elementary, middle, or high school, or are an adult learner.
- Your household income is at or below 185% of the federal poverty level. For example, for a family of 4, that’s $55,500 annually.
If your student meets the preapproval criteria, they will be enrolled in SUN Bucks. If they are not automatically enrolled, you can apply for SUN Bucks directly.
Once enrolled, each eligible student will receive $120 for the summer, pre-loaded on an EBT card. You can use the card like a debit card. You can use it to buy SNAP-eligible foods. You can use it at grocery stores, farmers markets, and online retailers. They must accept SNAP.
You do not need to be a U.S. citizen to apply and qualify. Applying for or getting SUN Bucks does not affect immigration status. They also do not affect the ability to get/keep a Green Card or become a U.S. citizen.
