Payments from the U.S. Government are essential for more than 70 million American recipients in June 2024. If you get Social Security or Supplemental Security Income (SSI), here is what you need to know.
SSI recipients, whether they get retirement or SSDI benefits too, should know their payment will arrive in advance. Therefore, you will not receive SSI on June 1, but on May 31, 2024. This is because June 1 is Saturday and payments are on business days.
Social Security on June 3, for retirement and SSDI recipients
Some retirees and some disability insurance beneficiaries will get their money on June 3. This will be possible if they started getting Social Security before May 1997.
Another way to qualify for retirement or SSDI checks on June 3 is to be entitled to SSI payments as well. Bear in mind that the average payments for SSI, retirement, and SSDI are different.
Retirees can get about $1,915 on average. SSI recipients get the smallest average payments with just $698 while SSDI recipients receive about $1,537 on average.
Social Security on the second and fourth Wednesday
As you may have guessed, there will be no retirement or SSDI payment on the third Wednesday in June. This is because of the Juneteenth holiday. So recipient will get a new payment on June 18 instead if their birthday is from 11-20.
If your birthday is from 1-10, your payment will be due on June 12. So, you will have to wait for 9 days when the June 3 payment is sent. The June 26 check or direct deposit will be yours if you are on Social Security and do not qualify for the rest of the payments.
Hence, your birthday must be from the 21st to the 31st. So, here is the summary of all the paydays in June:
- SSI May 31, not on June 1.
- SSDI or retirement benefits on June 3: On SSI and SS benefits or on Social Security before May 1997
- SSDI or retirement benefits on June 12: Birthday from 1-10
- SSDI or retirement benefits on June 18: Birthday from 11-20
- SSDI or retirement benefits on June 26: Birthday from 21-31
