As of October 28, 2025, Great Collections announced the staggering price a dime has reached at an auction in the United States. It is known as the 1975 No S Proof Dime. As a matter of fact, it has just been sold for $506,250. What is more, this specimen has been owned by the same family since 1978. For your information, this is one of the 2 known examples.
The interest in this Great Collections auction was great. There were a total of 200 bids so collectors and investors were looking forward to having this marvel in their possession regardless of the high amount.
Why was this coin so valuable?
Apparently, the Proof 1975 dime was released by mistake with no “S” mint mark. Actually, it set a new and all-time auction record claims Great Collections. It has reached such a high amount that it is almost thirty times what the consignor’s family spent when they bought it in 1978, 46 years ago.
The increasing cost of living and a higher interest in the dime has made this auction record possible. Rare specimens are usually graded by Professional Coin Grading Services (PCGS) and this was no exception.
The grading it obtained was PCGS Proof-67. Apart from getting this grade, the Certified Acceptance Corporation, also known as CAC, has given its approval. No doubt collectors need to buy with warranty and safety.
Where has been this coin all this time?
In fact, a collector from Ohio and his mother bought it in 1978. Then, after such a great purchase, they decided to keep it for all these years. Bear in mind that the amount they paid was $18,200 back then.
Obviously, it was a great amount of money but it has paid off. Great Collections did not receive this coin until 2 months ago. Almost 50 years took the owner of the coin to consign it and sell it.
Modern rarities are appealing to collectors and it raised interest in countries like Japan, Germany or the United Kingdom. If you would like to know more about this coin, visit Great Collections.
