Walmart is distributing millions of dollars following a significant false advertising lawsuit. The company has agreed to settle allegations. It charged customers more than the advertised prices for some grocery items.
This $45 million settlement means that some American shoppers can receive up to $500 in direct payments. The lawsuit started in Florida last year. Shoppers claimed Walmart had been overcharging for specific pay-by-weight items.

Why is walmart making these payments without even having the receipt?
These items include bagged citrus products and various meats. The overcharges are alleged to have happened between October 19, 2018, and January 19, 2024.
Walmart has not admitted to any wrongdoing in this case. “We continue to deny the allegations, but we believe a settlement is in the best interest of both parties,” a Walmart representative told Fox Business. The deadline to file a claim and receive a payout is June 5.
How to get paid by walmart
The alleged overcharges are for fruits such as oranges and grapefruits. They were sold in mesh bags. Many meat and seafood purchases were also implicated.
The money you get from the settlement depends on how many of these items you can say you bought. If you file a claim without proof of purchase, you can receive between $10 and $25.
If you have receipts, you could receive more. Claimants with proof of purchase can qualify for 2% of the price of the weighted goods and bagged citrus. They bought them during the settlement period.
The maximum payout Walmart will issue in such cases is $500. The deadline to formally exclude yourself from the settlement class and retain your right to sue Walmart over this matter is May 22.
