Disability benefits can be sent in the form of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI). Since the September payment for SSI is due on August 30, 2 days ahead of schedule, let’s have a look at the next payments in September.
SSDI recipients who have received SSI on August 30, will get Social Security on September 3, 2024. Another way to qualify is to have been on benefits since before May 1997.
SSDI & the Wednesday rounds of payments
The Agency has scheduled Disability Insurance payments for September 11, 18 and 25. As you can see, they will be due on the second, third, and fourth Wednesday in September.
That is why many recipients call it the Wednesday checks. Bear in mind that you may receive SSI on August 30 and SSDI on September 3 too. However, you can only receive one of the Social Security Disability Insurance payments in September. The maximum is 1 per month and 12 per year. Check eligibility below:
- September 3:
- SSDI recipients who started receiving benefits before May 1997
- beneficiaries of both SSI and SSDI
- September 11: if you were born before the 11th
- September 18: if you were born before the 20th and after the 10th
- September 25: if you were born after the 20th and before the 31st
SSDI payment amounts for September 3 and the Wednesday payments
The maximum amount for Social Security Disability Insurance is just informational. Few disability recipients can get $3,822 in 2024. Let’s focus on the average checks which may be more realistic.
For your information, as of July 2024, the average SSDI check is worth $1,538. Unfortunately, many disability recipients did not have the opportunity to work for many years due to their disability.
This factor reduces your payment amount quite a lot. In some cases, Social Security Disability Insurance recipients need to rely on the Supplemental Security Income and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the former Food Stamps program in the USA.
