SSDI is a Social Security benefit payment for American workers with a qualifying disability. Since their condition prevents them from working for over a year, they need these monthly checks to make ends meet. The money they receive every year changes thanks to the cost-of-living adjustment when inflation rises.
Thanks to these COLAs, SSDI recipients can maintain their buying power. The thing is a few workers with a disability will be able to qualify for a payment of up to $4,018 in 2025. But what are the requirements to get such a large Social Security check or direct deposit?
SSDI payment of $4,018 – Eligibility
To qualify for a Social Security Disability Insurance payment of $4,018, you must have been a worker with a large salary for many decades. So, if you have had average or low wages, you will not qualify.
Having a disability can prevent you from continuing working, so many SSDI recipients cannot meet the minimum number of years to get the largest disability payments either. Here are all the requirements:
- having earned the contribution and benefit base for 35 years (also known as taxable maximum)
- file for Social Security Disability Insurance at the age SSA requires in 2025
- having worked for at least thirty-five years
- having worked in jobs that paid enough payroll taxes
So, if you meet all these requirements, which are many and not easy at all, you will be eligible for an SSDI payment of $4,018 in 2025 after the COLA increase.
SSDI payment dates when recipients can get up to $4,018
The American workers with a disability who are receiving Disability Insurance will receive the COLA increase in January 2025. So, it will not be possible to receive the new maximum amounts in 2024.
The first SSDI payment in 2025 will be issued on January 3, 2025. To get money on this date you must have started collecting disability benefits from Social Security before May 1997. Or you must also be collecting SSI benefits.
The Social Security Administration has also announced payments for January 8 (born 1-10), 15 (born 11-20)or 22 (born 21-31).
