Recently, Cepsa rebranded itself as Moeve to distance its image from fossil fuels. Meanwhile, Repsol is leading the way in renewable energy by introducing a new type of fuel at its service stations.
Rather than a completely new fuel, it’s more about a rebranding effort, as this type of diesel has been available at a few of the company’s stations for several months.
Nexa Fuel is now available at 580 gas stations.
The unique aspect of this new diesel is its ability to reduce carbon emissions by 90% compared to traditional diesel. This is a significant development, as it presents a type of fuel that the European Union should consider under the exemption category for carbon-neutral synthetic fuels.
The Future of Emission Neutrality
Repsol is on the brink of achieving total carbon neutrality, a milestone that would allow vehicles using this innovative family of fuels to continue operating beyond the impending bans on the sale and circulation of traditional thermal vehicles. These prohibitions, set by Brussels, are due to take effect in 2035 and 2050, respectively.
Production at the Cartagena Refinery (Spain)
This revolutionary fuel is produced at Repsol’s refinery in Cartagena. Its origins lie in organic materials, such as used oils, crop residues, and various plant waste. Already available at 580 service stations, this fuel is marketed under the name Nexa, proudly produced at Repsol’s Murcia refinery.
Support from Brussels
One of the standout features of this fuel is its compatibility with nearly all current diesel engines. However, it is advisable to check your vehicle’s manual to confirm compatibility. According to Repsol, this fuel not only maintains engine health better than conventional fuels but also enhances it with its special additional additives.
