The Social Security Administration has announced the payments for the month of December. Unlike most months, there will be no payment on the 3rd of the month. This payment is for those who collected benefits before May 1997. It is also for those on SSI and Social Security benefits.
Since December 3 is Sunday, the Administration has sent their monthly payment on December 1. Therefore, they will collect their money on the same day as those on SSI. Advanced payments take place when there is a holiday or a weekend on the payday.
If you did not receive your Social Security retirement benefits on December 1, you must wait for at least three mailing days. Before calling or visiting your local office, contact your financial institution or bank to see if they processed your payment properly.
When will the rest of the Social Security payments arrive in December?
The fact that there are no payments from December 3 through December 9 does not mean that there will not be more payments. Actually, there will be 4 more paydays. Besides, one of them will bring the new Cost of Living Adjustment increase.
The next three Social Security payments will be for those who did not collect benefits before May 1997. What is more, they must meet one condition, that their birthday is eligible too.
For example, if your birthday is from the 1st to the 10th, you may receive your retirement or SSDI check on December 13. Another possibility is to collect your payment on December 20. It will only be for those eligible beneficiaries whose birthday is from the 11th to the 20th.
The last check those on retirement or SSDI can receive will be on December 27. Make sure that your birth date is from the 21st to the 31st though. But, there will be a January payment on December 29 too.
Who will receive the Social Security check on December 29?
None of the aforementioned payments include the COLA boost. However, the December 29 check is for the SSI beneficiaries and it was supposed to arrive on New Year. As it is a holiday, it will get to the recipient’s bank accounts 3 days before.
Although it may be surprising for some new beneficiaries on both SSI and Social Security, they can receive 3 checks from the Administration in the same month. The amounts for SSI are up to 914 dollars on December 1, 2023.
On December 29, they can get up to $943 for their SSI payment. If they are also receiving SSDI or retirement benefits from Social Security, they can get a lot more.
For instance, if you get an average check as a retiree, you can get approximately $1,848 in 2023. SSDI beneficiaries can get on average about $1,489 in 2023. Thanks to the COLA increase their January payments will go up by 3.2%.
