More than 7 million Americans may receive a new payment on May 31 from the Federal Government. In fact, this money will only be for eligible Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients in the United States.
So, if you are receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI), you will not receive a payment on June 1, 2024. Instead, you will get your money one day before the usual due date.
WHY WILL SOCIAL SECURITY SEND SSI PAYMENTS ON MAY 31?
Following Social Security’s rules, the Administration never sends money on the weekend or holidays. Since June 1, the normal payday for SSI is Saturday, the payday had to be re-scheduled.
Therefore, this is not additional money from Social Security. It is simply the Supplemental Security Income payment that is due on May 31 rather than June 1, 2024.
So, save this money for the June expenses because you will need it. The Supplemental Security Income Program can send different amounts to beneficiaries, so it will depend on your situation.
SSI PAYMENT AMOUNTS ON MAY 31
Unless you qualify for the largest payments, you may receive an average check or direct deposit. For example, the average check for all SSI recipients will be about $698. Depending on your age, you may get more or less money.
For example, if you are under 18 and you get SSI payments, on average you could receive $815. Seniors aged 65 or older get lower checks because they also get Social Security retirement benefits. Their average check is worth about $574.
If you are 18-64 years old, you could get about $743 on average. Those citizens with no earnings at all and no money on hand may qualify for up to $943 if single or $1,415 if married.
