The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP provides beneficiaries with different amounts. So, not all Americans on Food Stamps receive the same amount of money.
Some areas have higher inflation so the SNAP amounts there are higher than in the 48 contiguous States and the District of Columbia. That is the case in Alaska, Hawaii, The United States Virgin Islands and Guam.
SNAP beneficiaries may also receive more money if they have a large family. Although many low-income families are collecting Food Stamps, some do not know they are eligible.
SNAP MAXIMUM AMOUNTS IN 2024
The Food Stamp amounts range from $291 to $1,751 in the 48 contiguous States and the District of Columbia. Of course, they are maximum amounts, and not everyone may qualify for the full amount. Therefore, they can get reductions if they have other earnings or resources. So, let us have a look at average payments too.
For example, if you are a single person your average SNAP payment can be about $202. So, even if you do not qualify for the full amount, $291, it is worth receiving it.
A couple or a family of 2 members can receive up to $535. The average payment goes down to $372. Still, it is a valuable amount and Food Stamp beneficiaries can take advantage of it.
A family of three can receive up to $766 or an average SNAP payment worth $598. If you have not applied for Food Stamps yet, do not put it off and claim your monthly check.
FOOD STAMPS FOR A FAMILY OF 4
Families with 4 people can receive up to $973. Average payments are not bad either since they can collect about $713. The SNAP maximum amount for 5 members is $1,155, or $852 on average.
If you are six, seven, or eight, the maximum SNAP amounts will be $1,386, $1,532, and $1,751 respectively. Each additional person can increase benefits by up to $219. Of course, it is not something common but there can be such big families in the United States.
The maximum amounts in Guam are $430 (1 person) – $2,581 (8 people). The United States Virgin Islands pay higher amounts than in the 48 contiguous states too. SNAP checks range from $375 (1 person) – $2,252 (8 people). Alaska and Hawaii also pay higher amounts.
Alaska has three possible maximum SNAP amounts. It depends on the area where you live, Urban, Rural 1 or Rural 2. For one person the maximum amounts are $374, $477, and $581. But for 8 are $2,246, $2,865, $3,487. In Hawaii, they are up to $527 (1 person) and up to $3,166 for 8.
