In general, there is a maximum SSI amount for individuals, married couples and essential persons. This maximum amount increases every year inflation goes up and it may increase after the 2025 COLA.
Social Security uses the Consumer Price Index from the third quarter of 2023 to the third quarter of 2024. If there is an increase, SSI payments also increase in 2025. So far, the latest COLA estimate is 2.57 according to The Senior Citizens League.
Some States supplement Federal SSI benefits
Even if the maximum amount for a single person is $943 and $1,415 for married couples, a State supplement can make the total Supplemental Security Income benefit level higher.
A State supplement payment amount may vary on many different factors. For example, it will depend on your living arrangements and income among other things.
However, the States or territories of Arizona, Arkansas, Mississippi, North Dakota, Tennessee, the Northern Mariana Islands and West Virginia have no State Supplement. Thus, if you are on Supplemental Security Income there, you cannot get a Supplement to your benefit.
