The Social Security Administration (SSA) has confirmed when the 2025 COLA increase will be in eligible SSDI recipients’ bank accounts. As a matter of fact, it will not be in 2024 because the 2.5% COLA boost will become effective in January. So, If you are receiving Disability Insurance, it will not be possible to get the cost-of-living adjustment increase yet.
The only Americans who can receive the 2025 COLA increase in 2024 will be those getting Supplemental Security Income. So, if you received SSDI on December 3 and you get SSI too, the 2025 COLA increase for SSI will be delivered on December 31, 2024.
Date for the 2025 COLA if you are on SSDI
The first Social Security Disability Insurance payment with the COLA increase will be issued on January 3, 2024. To get money on this payday, you must have filed and got benefits before May 1997.
If you didn’t, you can receive SSDI on Jan. 3, 2025, if you are also a recipient of the Supplemental Security Income. Other paydays for Disability Insurance with the 2025 COLA increase will be due on :
- January 8: Disability Insurance beneficiaries born from 1-10
- January 15: Disability Insurance beneficiaries born from 11-20

How much will the 2025 COLA increase SSDI benefits?
All SSDI benefits will increase by 2.5%. That is 2.5 dollars for each 100 dollars you get from Social Security. Therefore, if you get a 1,000-dollar payment, your new check after COLA will become $1,025.
Those SSDI recipients who qualify for an average payment worth $1,542 in 2024 will get about $1,580 after the COLA boost. This is about $38 extra per month, about 11 dollars lower than retires average boost.
The largest SSDI benefit payment with COLA will be $4,018, up from $3,822. As you can see, this boost has nothing to do with the normal COLA for all recipients. This is because these payments depend on the taxable maximum, which increases more than the annual COLA does.
