There are three groups of Americans who can receive this SSI payment on December 29. In order to get monthly payments from the Supplemental Security Income you must file and get the approval of Social Security.
Seniors aged 65 or older, blind people, or people with a disability may qualify for SSI. So, if you received a Supplemental Security Income payment on December 1 and you are still eligible, you will get more money on December 29.
Even if you collect your monthly payment on December 29, it is for the month of January. If you are new to SSI and this is your first check after Social SEcurity’s approval, save this money for the next month. It is not a bonus or extra payment.
HOW MUCH HAVE BENEFITS INCREASED AFTER THE 2024 COLA?
All Social Security and Supplemental Security Income benefits have increased by 3.2%. If you qualify for the largest amount in 2023, you may receive $943 on December 29. Therefore, your new SSI payment is 29 dollars higher. Remember that the largest check in 2023 was $914.
Another possibility is to receive the maximum amount for a married couple. If this is your case, you must both qualify for SSI. Otherwise, you will not be eligible for this payment.
The new SSI maximum amount for couples is $1,415, up from $1,371. Hence, these beneficiaries will receive $528 in 2024. However, not all SSI recipients qualify for such a large boost.
Essential persons can also receive Supplemental Security Income. But their new amounts are up to $472. In 2023, their amount was $458. They almost get 15 dollars extra per month if eligible for the largest payment.
SSI PAYMENT DATES IN 2024
For your information, most SSI payments will be on the very first day of the month. But there are many exceptions because Social Security never schedules any payments on a holiday.
If an SSI payment is due on the weekend, the Social Security Administration also makes changes. The important thing is that these checks are never late because they are for low-income families and individuals.
Therefore, SSA prefers to send SSI payments on the previous business day if it is a holiday or on the weekend. The 2024 paydays will be on the first day in February, March, April, May, July August, October and November.
The SSI check for June will arrive on May 31. The one for September will be due on August 29. Finally, the December payment will be sent on November 29, 2024. Apply for the Supplemental Security Income if your retirement or SSDI payment is too low. Do not put it off and get more cash. SNAP is another alternative too.
