USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) and the Food and Nutrition Service have announced a new and permanent program. Summer EBT benefits will replace P-EBT benefits.
If you still do not know anything about summer EBT benefits, you should be aware of the fact that it will provide eligible children with $40 per month. That could be a total amount of $120 this upcoming summer.
Not only can you get these summer benefits from your State, but you can also receive money from some Tribal Nations and U.S. territories. Unfortunately, some States have not joined this initiative, though they might have a similar one in some cases.
What can I purchase if I get summer EBT benefits?
According to USDA, there are several things that you can buy with your loaded card. However, there is also a list of things that you cannot buy because they are not EBT-eligible.
Among the things summer E.B.T. beneficiaries can buy are, obviously, vegetables and fruit. Undoubtedly, you can buy fish, poultry and meat if you would like to do so.
Some people may fear they may not be allowed to buy foods like snacks or some non-alcoholic beverages. The thing is USDA allows summer EBT beneficiaries to buy non-alcoholic drinks and snack food as well as other foods.
WHAT THINGS CAN’T I BUY USING THESE SUMMER BENEFITS?
Similarly to SNAP benefits, you cannot buy pet foods. USDA insists that EBT beneficiaries cannot buy medicine either. Therefore, if your child is ill, you need to use your own cash or credit/debit card.
Sometimes you cannot afford to buy some personal hygiene items because they are too expensive. Unfortunately, you cannot buy them because they are not eligible.
Hot foods are not included. Therefore, make sure you take with you enough money when you go grocery shopping to buy things like cleaning or household supplies since they are not eligible items.
What are the benefits of the Summer EBT program?
One of the main benefits of the Summer EBT benefits is the fact that it will help children eat healthy food while there is no school. Besides, low-income families will be able to save money, just like with SNAP benefits.
These summer benefits will be awesome to buy groceries. Of course, it is only for those eligible families whose children are in school. Over 30 million children will not face food insecurity thanks to this USDA program.
Moreover, summer EBT benefits work together with SNAP, WIC and other summer meal sites. All these programs are run by the Food and Nutrition Service. Visit https://www.fns.usda.gov/sebt for more details.
