Social Security Disability Insurance payments are usually sent on 4 different paydays every month. Next December will be no exception and SSDI recipients will start with a payment on December 3 if they qualify.
To get SSDI on December 3 you must have been on disability benefits since before May 1997. To avoid this condition, you can also qualify if you receive the Supplemental Security Income payment on November 29 and you are also on Social Security. So you get both benefits simultaneously but on different days.
SSDI payment of about $1,542 after December 3
After this date, you may receive a payment from Social Security if you did not qualify for the check or deposit on the 3rd. In fact, Social Security’s payment schedule unveiled that there will be SSDI payments on:
- December 11: disability beneficiaries whose birth date is from the 1st to the 10th
- December 18: disability beneficiaries whose birth date is from the 11th to the 20th
- December 24: disability beneficiaries whose birth date is from the 21st to the 31st
None of the December payments for Social Security Disability Insurance will get the 2025 COLA increase next month. As a matter of fact, the first disability recipients to get it will do so on January 3, 2025.
SSDI maximum amounts and average checks
The average check, as of October 2024, is just $1,542. Compared to the retirees’ average payment, which is $1,927, there is a considerable difference. Those who were high earners most of their careers and met all SSA’s requirements could receive up to $3,822.
Actually, $3,822 will be the largest benefit payment for SSDI in December 2024. To get it you must have worked for 35 years, filed as early as SSA allows not to get a reduction, earned the contribution and benefit base for 35 years, and had jobs covered by the Administration.
Keep in mind that you must remain eligible to receive Social Security Disability Insurance payments. Report any health improvements to SSA due to surgery or other causes in order to avoid overpayments.
