If you have filed for Social Security or Supplemental Security Income you could get more than one payment in May. Do not forget that if you do not get the Administration’s approval, you cannot collect these payments.
The age to file for Social Security retirement benefits is still 62. However, retirees can only apply for Supplemental Security Income if they are 65, have a disability, or are blind. Having a low income is also a must for SSI.

SOCIAL SECURITY PAYMENTS BY MAY 15
As a matter of fact, most payments will be due before May 16. However, there will be two more checks or direct deposits after May 15. SSI recipients will be the first ones to collect their money on May 1.
For your information, many SSI recipients also get Social Security at the same time. They receive their retirement or disability benefits on May 3. Those who began receiving retirement or SSDI before May 1997 get checks on May 3 as well.
The May 8 payment from Social Security will be for those whose birthday is from 1-10. May 15 will be payday for those whose birthday is from 11-20. The Administration will only send checks for retirees and SSDI on May 8, 15, and 22 if you got benefits after April 30, 1997.
SOCIAL SECURITY PAYMENTS ON MAY 22 & 31
May 22 could be your payday if your birth date is on the last 11 days of the month. That is, from the 21st to the 31st. The maximum amount for retirees will be $4,873 in May 2024.
Average checks for retirees are worth $1,913. If you get SSDI, you could receive up to $3,822. SSDI payments are worth $1,537 on average. SSI maximum benefits are worth $699 or $943 if you get the maximum amount.
Social Security has scheduled an SSI payment for May 31. This is not a bonus payment. Of course, it is not extra money either. It is the June payment sent in advance because June 31 falls on a Saturday.
