Disability benefits are due on January 24. As a matter of fact, it will be the last day when SSDI recipients can get a new payment this month. To get this money, you must have gotten Social Security’s approval first.
If you began receiving money from Social Security before May 1997, this disability benefits check is not yours. It is only for those who have received benefits after April 1, 1997, and meet the birthday requirement.
Obviously, you cannot collect it if you overcome your disability. If this is the case, report it to the Social Security Administration so that they no longer send you disability benefits.
BIRTH DATE FROM 21-31 TO GET THESE DISABILITY BENEFITS
Apart from having a qualifying disability and receiving benefits after May 1997, your birthday must match Social Security guidelines. Then, these disability benefits will be yours if your birthday is on any month but from days 21-31.
The other beneficiaries will have to wait for their disability benefits till February. SSI (Supplemental Security Income) recipients will be the first ones to get their money in February.
February 1 will be the SSI payday. Immediately after, the first SSDI check will be due. February 2 will be your payday if you have been on Social Security before May 1997.
Disability benefits for those on benefits from May 1997 will be due on three different paydays. The round of Wednesday SSDI payments will arrive on February 14, 21 and 28. Birth dates to be eligible are 1-10, 11-20, and 21-31 respectively.
SSDI AMOUNTS FOR JANUARY 24, 2024
The Social Security Administration claims that the average SSDI payment is $1,537 in 2024. It is 3.2% larger than in 2023. Do not forget that as of December 2023, it was just $1,849.
Disability benefits could have higher amounts if you have been a high earner for many years and filed as a senior. The closer to Full Retirement Age you claim SSDI, the better.
However, it is not possible to choose when you file because you have a disability that prevents you from working. This is the reason why most beneficiaries get a lower disability benefits payment.
To get more money while on SSDI, you’d better apply for Supplemental Security Income or SSI. Apart from this benefit, you could apply for SNAP so you can get money to buy nutritious food. Visit your local agency or contact the Administration or even USDA to get support.
