SSDI stands for Social Security Disability Insurance. This is a benefit some workers can receive after having a qualifying disability that prevents them from working for over a year.
These disability benefits allow workers to have some money while they cannot work. Sometimes your disability is not permanent and you overcome it. On other occasions, you continue receiving them until you reach Full Retirement Age.
Then, they simply turn into retirement benefits and you carry on getting the same amount of money. Not all SSDI recipients collect their monthly payments on the same payday. Let’s have a look at the group of beneficiaries who will get a new payment next week.
WHO QUALIFIES FOR AN SSDI CHECK AND WHEN?
The next Social Security Disability Insurance payment will be for those who started collecting checks from May 1997 onward. If you began receiving them before May 1997, you do not qualify.
What is more, the second requirement is to have your birthday on a specific day. Therefore, if your birthday falls on 1-20, you will not receive these disability benefits.
Those people on SSDI whose birthday is from 21-31 of any month will collect Social Security Disability Insurance next week. The exact day when they can receive the money is January 24.
Do not forget that if your birthday falls on any of these days but you started receiving disability benefits before May 1997, your SSDI payment will be due on February 2, not on Jan. 24.
LAST PAYMENT IN JANUARY AND POSSIBLE AMOUNTS
The last disability benefits due on January 24 can give recipients up to $3,822. However, just a very small percentage of beneficiaries can receive such a lot of money.
In fact, SSDI payments tend to be much lower on average. This is mainly because workers have not had much time to pay taxes to the Social Security Administration.
So, they get a reduction in their SSDI checks if they have not worked for a minimum of 35 years. The average Social Security Disability Insurance is worth $1,537 in 2024.
Remember that some members of your family may be eligible for Social Security benefits on your record too. So, once you apply for SSDI, you must check their eligibility. Spouses can get about $420 on average and children of workers with a disability about $491 as of December 2023.
