Whether you are receiving a Social Security payment in late October or early November, it will not take long. Right after Halloween, there will be a new payment for retirees and a closer one on October 23.
To get money from Social Security on October 23, apart from having filed and receiving approval, you must meet the birth date requirement. For the payment right after Halloween, you must have been on benefits before May 1997 or also be on Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
Requirements to get Social Security before Halloween
The key requirement to receive a Social Security payment of up to $4,873 is to have your birthday from 21-31. So, if your birthday is after the 20th and you did not qualify for any of the previous payments, your direct payment will be in your bank account on October 23. Who is not eligible?
- those on SSI as well
- those who began getting Social Security before May 1997
- those whose birthday is from 1-20 regardless of the month
- those who broke SSA rules or did not file
As of August 2024, the average payment for retirees is worth $1,920. If you were a high earner you may receive a larger payment. Those who had a low wage or worked for a few years may get a lot less than average.
Requirements to get Social Security after Halloween
Surprisingly, the November 3 payment will be issued on November 1. So as to avoid sending a late payment, SSA has had to reschedule the Nov. 3 payment. Sunday cannot be a payday, so it will be issued on Friday instead.
Payments are always on time but if you experience any delays contact your bank or financial institution. They may have experienced difficulties in processing all the payments for any inconvenience they may have had.
Report any missing, late, or stolen payments to the Social Security Administration if you have not received it after 3 mailing days.
