On October 1st, millions of beneficiaries will receive their payments from the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program. This support, managed by the Social Security Administration, is designed for individuals with severe disabilities that impact their ability to earn an income.
SSI Payment
For individual applicants, the payments can reach up to $943 per month. Couples who apply jointly can receive up to $1,415. Additionally, those known as ‘essential persons’—individuals who live with and assist disabled persons in their daily activities—will receive up to $472.
These figures have been adjusted by 3.2% due to inflation compared to the previous year.
It’s important to note that SSI is a separate program from traditional Social Security. This means that receiving Social Security benefits does not automatically qualify someone for SSI, and vice versa.
Those who are already SSI recipients and wish to calculate the exact amount they will receive can use a calculator provided by the Social Security Administration.
