Individuals will receive money from USDA from October 1 through October 28, 2024. These will be the payment dates for eligible recipients in all 50 States and the District of Columbia. Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands also send Food Stamps within this payment window.
If you qualify for SNAP benefits maximum amount for one person, you will receive $292. Thanks to the COLA increase, there will be one extra dollar per month. Even if it is not much, it is better than the reduction in Hawaii.

SNAP update regarding ABAWD and 2025 COLA amounts
The amount of money you can receive from SNAP is not the only thing you should worry about. Those beneficiaries who are aged 18-54 will have to work for a minimum of 80 hours per month to get Food Stamps for over 3 months in 3 years.
Not meeting these requirements may mean you lose your SNAP benefits in three months. This is particularly important for those aged 53 and 54 because this rule will apply to them in October.
ABAWD stands for the Able-Bodied Adult Without Dependent. That, is you need to comply with this rules unless you get an exemption or have a child. Check maximum amounts after COLA below.
Will snap benefits increase in 2024?
SNAP benefits will increase slightly in 2024 based on the cost-of-living adjustment that takes effect on October 1, 2024
Maximum SNAP Benefit Amounts as of October 1, 2024:
- 1 person household – $292 (up from $291)
- 2 person household – $536 (up from $535)
- 3 person household – $768 (up from $766)
- 4 person household – $975 (up from $973)
- 5 person household – $1,158 (up from $1,155)
- 6 person household – $1,390 (up from $1,386)
- 7 person household – $1,536 (up from $1,532)
- 8 person household – $1,756 (up from $1,751)
- Each additional person adds $220 (up from $219)
The maximum benefit amounts are higher in Alaska, Hawaii, the Virgin Islands and Guam due to the higher food prices in those areas.
Additionally, starting October 1, 2024, able-bodied adults without dependents (ABAWDs) ages 52-54 will now be required to prove they are working, training or in school to receive SNAP benefits for more than 3 months. This is an expansion of existing work requirements for ABAWDs ages 18-52. Some exemptions apply, such as for the homeless, veterans, those with disabilities, and those with children under 18.
